I FILED MY NOMINATION PAPERS FOR COUNCIL
It’s a step I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. And I’m very fortunate that I’ve had great mentors and friends, and a wonderful husband, who’ve given me advice and encouragement.
And I’ve also had a few people who don’t support my vision and that’s ok.
I care deeply about our community and believe municipal government – or any level of government - works best when people listen to one another, ask questions, look carefully at the facts, and are willing to have respectful conversations — even when we don't agree.
Municipal government is the one that affects our daily lives: from potholes to snowplows, to garbage pick up and yard waste management, to policing and fire services, to getting an answer quickly from Town Hall.
There are small irritants and big irritants and everything in between. There’re items and infrastructure that we can manage and plan for, and then there are events that we can’t control – like the pandemic – that unexpectedly affect our daily lives and wallets.
I don't have all the answers. I won’t pretend that I do.
What I do have is curiosity, a willingness to listen, and a genuine desire to understand the issues facing Wasaga Beach and help find practical, efficient and financially doable solutions.
I am a research geek. My job as a Knowledge Management Specialist for an international law firm taught me many things including the need to come to the table with solutions, to listen to everyone’s ideas, and to be prepared.
In the early 2000’s, I had the opportunity to work for one of the companies which won the contract to install municipal water services in WB. I learned that long hours and meeting deadlines was imperative to the success of a business.
All of us are shareholders in the Corporation of the Town of Wasaga Beach. We want a successful future, a direction for development, but also that life’s daily issues are taken care of.
Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing some of the things I'm learning, the questions I'm asking, and some ideas I'd like us to talk about.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me to take this step.
And for anyone reading this post - Thanks for listening!
