TAXATION MONDAY: WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES UP YOUR PROPERTY TAX BILL? Part 1
September 28th, 2026
š Have you ever looked at your property-tax bill and wondered: "Where does all
that money actually go?"

It's easy to think of it simply as āmy municipal taxes.ā But in Wasaga Beach, there are three main pieces:
šļø TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH
Who is responsible? Town Council
What does it pay for? Local services ā roads, parks, recreation, fire services, planning, by-law enforcement and more.
š³ COUNTY OF SIMCOE
Who is responsible? County Council
What does it pay for? Regional services ā paramedics, social services, housing, public health and other County responsibilities.
š EDUCATION
Who is responsible? Province of Ontario
What does it pay for? Ontario's publicly funded elementary and secondary education system.
The Town of Wasaga Beach collects the property taxes on behalf of the Town, the County and the local school boards.
And there's another important piece: What about MPAC?
MPAC doesn't set your property-tax rate.MPAC determines the assessed value and classification of your property. Your assessment is then used to calculate your share of the taxes.
So, very simply:
MPAC determines the assessment.
Governments determine the tax rates.
Your property-tax bill reflects both.
I think it's important that we understand what we're paying for ā and who is responsible for each part.
Thanks for listening! š
